Project overview

Canada Life Advisor Portal is a centralized, secure platform for licensed financial advisers and paraplanners, providing unified access to key tools like Adviser Connect and the Retirement Account Dashboard. The portal supports cross-device access, smart dashboards, proposal tools, and seamless integration with back-office systems—replacing legacy platforms and streamlining advisor workflows. Because the rebuild was a migration from scratch, we also addressed WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility during the migration itself—so the new portal launched inclusive and compliant, rather than entering a second cycle of accessibility testing and remediation after go-live.

The challenge

Canada Life needed to migrate and modernize its advisor portal to:

• Replace legacy React 18 code with a scalable Vue 3.5 architecture
• Improve build speed, developer experience, and maintainability
• Integrate shared state management and scalable, reusable components
• Support 30,000+ advisors with secure, cross-device access
• Enable rapid onboarding, robust performance monitoring, and incident response
• Meet WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility expectations without a costly post-migration remediation loop—where testers re-test the migrated UI, raise accessibility defects, and developers fix them in a separate phase

Our solution

We delivered a robust, production-ready portal by:

• Migrating from React 18 to Vue 3.5 for improved performance and developer workflows
• Baking WCAG 2.1 AA into the migration—since this was a from-scratch rebuild, we fixed accessibility issues (semantic structure, keyboard access, focus management, contrast, and assistive-technology compatibility) as screens were rebuilt, instead of waiting for a post-launch audit cycle
• Integrating Pinia for shared state management and scalable Composition API components
• Collaborating with product teams to break down project scopes and deliver new features
• Building metrics dashboards for real-time performance and availability monitoring
• Participating in on-call rotations to ensure operational uptime and rapid incident resolution
